The twenty-first edition of the Maroc Challenge will be held from March 22 to 30, 2024 and will present important innovations on previous editions, both in the itinerary design and by taking new routes never used before in the Maroc.
The event will move further south than ever and the traditional bivouac will be set up near Tata, capital of the region and halfway point between Zagora and Guelmin. It will be the main novelty of the upcoming Spring ‘24, as it will allow us to explore desert areas where we have never before set foot in the Maroc Challenge, but it won’t be the only one, in our endeavour to make the event increasingly attractive.
The second novelty we have for you in the Spring 2024 is that the edition will start in Er-Rachidia for the first time, allowing us to prepare an even more exciting route with the desert as the main protagonist and with the promise that we will have plenty of sand from the first to the last stage.
We will start out from Er-Rachidia, then head on down towards Zagora, the capital of the Draa Valley. From Zagora we will continue heading south towards Tata, where the bivouac will await us. From Tata we will go up to M’hamid, passing through Lake Iriki and the areas surrounding Erg Chegaga. From M’hamid we will move on to Erfoud, where we will make a loop in the fifth stage to finish off with the now traditional waypoint stage that will take us all the way to Merzouga at the foot of Erg Chebbi.
As you can see from the novelties we have mentioned, to which further details will be added when we carry out the recons, in the 21st edition we will have two absolutely new stages: Zagora – Tata and Tata – M’hamid, along with renewed routes in all the stages, new passages across the dunes of Erg Chegaga, the Ouzina dune ridges and a new route to cross Erg Chebbi.
It will, without a doubt, be one of the most adventurous, challenging and desert-oriented editions of the Maroc Challenge. Logically, and as is usual in this event, the difficulties will always be adapted to each different category.
Registrations will open on the 18th of December and on our website you will find all relevant details about registration and the established periods to take advantage of the cheapest rates.
