The Maroc Challenge is looking forward with optimism to its return to Morocco and gearing up for the Winter 2021, the get-together edition that promises strong emotions and high participation and will take place December 3 to 11.
This new edition will inevitably bring many new features, which we will gradually reveal to you and keep you up to date with an adventure that we have all been dreaming about ever since this pandemic began and changed our lives. As an opener, we can tell you that the official departure will take place in the city of Al Hoceima, on the shores of the Mediterranean in northern Morocco, just over a hundred kilometers away from Nador.
We are preparing a very special itinerary for this occasion, with desert plains and sand as the predominant features. We will start out from Al Hoceima and pass through charismatic places such as Matarka, Erfoud, FoumZguid, Zagora and Merzouga. We aim to maintain the same philosophy we have developed in recent editions, with routes tailored to the different types of vehicle, both 4×2 and 4×4, and also geared for different levels of difficulty.
Three notable points: The first, for those Maroc veterans out there, is that for the first stage, starting in Al-Hoceima, we will avoid following the steep, dry river beds that made life so difficult in 2016. Secondly, we will once again set up the now traditional bivouac in Matarka. And thirdly, just in case you were worried, there will be no lack of sand and dunes in this edition and we will visit such iconic places as Erg Chebbi, Erg Chegaga and the Ouzina dunes.
For this edition we have decided on a more adventurous route, seeking new challenges for the entire event, getting up close and personal with this incredible land we are so passionate about. The Winter 2021 is designed to get us back in the driver’s seat for yet another great adventure but, as always, don’t expect it to be easy… because it won’t be.
